Assalamu alaikum. In many Muslim countries you hear the adhan from the mosque five times a day. In the Netherlands and Belgium that is usually different: the call to prayer does not ring through the streets, and busy daily life makes it easy to forget a prayer. An adhan clock brings that call back into your home. But what exactly is an adhan clock, and how does it work?
What is an adhan clock?
An adhan clock, also called a prayer clock or azan clock, is a clock that shows the five daily prayer times: Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib and Isha. At the right moment the clock plays the adhan, the Islamic call to prayer. That way everyone at home knows when it is time to pray, without you having to check the clock or your phone yourself.
In the past, adhan clocks were often simple devices with a small screen and a few fixed sounds. A modern digital adhan clock does much more: it fetches the times automatically, has a large, clear screen and offers extra features such as Quran recitations and a daily hadith.
How does an adhan clock know the correct prayer times?
Prayer times change every day, because they depend on the position of the sun. They also differ by location: in Amsterdam they fall differently than in Brussels or Rotterdam. A digital adhan clock like the Muadhin adhan clock solves this by automatically fetching the correct times for your location via Wi-Fi.
Does your mosque follow slightly different times? Then you can also adjust the prayer times on the Muadhin manually, so they match the times of your own mosque exactly.
What else can a modern adhan clock do?
A good prayer clock is more than an alarm for prayer. The Muadhin, for example, has:
- 18 adhan voices, including from Makkah and Madinah, so you choose which muadhin calls your family to prayer;
- a Quran player with more than 100 reciters;
- a new hadith every day and a changing Islamic background;
- duas and ruqyah to play at any moment;
- the Islamic (Hijri) and Western date, always up to date;
- Bluetooth, to play the adhan or Quran through your own speaker;
- a night mode: the screen goes black, but the adhan still sounds as usual.
Adhan clock or an app: which is better?
There are many apps that show the prayer times. Handy, but a phone is personal: it sits in your pocket, is often on silent and is full of notifications and distractions. An adhan clock stands in the middle of your home. As a result:
- the whole family hears the adhan, including the children;
- there are no distractions: only prayer, Quran and hadith, no social media;
- you won't miss it because of a dead battery, because the clock runs on mains power.
For children this makes a real difference. When they hear the adhan every day and see the family respond to it, prayer naturally gets a fixed place in their day.
What should you look for when choosing an adhan clock?
- Automatic times: choose a clock that fetches the prayer times itself, so you never have to keep track of anything.
- Adjustable: handy if you want to follow the times of your own mosque.
- Clear screen: the times should be easy to read from a distance.
- Choice of adhan voices: so the adhan sounds the way you find beautiful.
- Placement: can the clock stand on a table and hang on the wall? For the Muadhin there is a special wall bracket.
Bring the adhan into your home
An adhan clock is a small purchase with a big impact: every day, five times a day, a reminder of what truly matters. The Muadhin adhan clock is available in white and black, with free shipping in the Netherlands and Belgium and a 14-day right of return.
May Allah make it easy for us to perform our prayers on time.
